Programs

In the coming weeks, our community will come face to face with an unprecedented crisis. Thousands of families will be forced to make very difficult decisions regarding the education, health, and safety of their children. As families confront the enduring realities of this pandemic, many children desperately need support with remote learning on days they do not attend school.

UUMCDC is stepping in to do what we’ve always done: serve those in need.

Unable to open for in-person worship, the church’s campus is sitting vacant in a surrounding neighborhood that is desperate for help. We aim to convert much of our space into learning pods for elementary school students to attend on the days assigned for at-home learning. Our team knows how to do this. We will keep the group sizes small in accordance with social distancing. Staff and children will wear masks and have daily temperature checks.  UUMCDC has formed a partnership with Nevada RISE Academy, who will provide students and resources. We are reaching out to elementary schools in our vicinity to identify in-need students. We are hopeful to be able to provide some form of tuition assistance based on income, as well as pay qualified staff to facilitate this program. This program will aim to help upwards of 40 families depending on need.

In light of the ongoing Covid pandemic and the decision for ccsd to start the year with all distance learning, the cdc is instituting a new program to support families through this unprecedented time. We have a newly established partnership with Nevada RISE Academy and want to open the opportunity for learning support to any family who needs it. The Jaguar program will be open to support small groups of children in a safe, controlled, supervised environment for them to complete their distance learning activities. Each room will have no more than ten children and be supported by a qualified cdc staff member. The children will also have access to the playground and worship center for water play and gross motor activities. The cost will be the normal Jaguar tuition of $30 per day. Please call for additional details.
